The Aerial Screw Paper Model Kit was a special design project to commemorate the 2005 Light in Winter Festival held in Ithaca, New York, in January. The continuing theme of the Light in Winter Festivals is the "fusion of Art, Music and Science".

It was a great honor to be chosen as the Festival Artist of the Year for 2005. I, therefore, felt compelled to choose a paper model design that embodied the theme, the spirit, and the originality that the festival represents.

With big name performance artists (ex. The Kronos Quartet and The Paul Winter Consort) and with leading scholars (ex. Frank Moon; the curator of Cornell University's 19 Century Releaux Machine Model Collection) on the program, I had no choice but to call on Leonardo Da Vinci for my inspiration.

This section of the Perceptions Web site contains background material on Da Vinci's Aerial Screw, a description of the resulting Paper Model Kit, Kit Sales information, and Links to the Light in Winter, Cornell Releaux, and the Leonardo Museum Web sites.
